Did you know that today is World Tourism Day?
“World Tourism Day is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of tourism to global well-being,” said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. “As we travel, let us engage with other cultures and celebrate human diversity. On this observance, let us recognize tourism as a force for a more tolerant, open and united world.”
I’m fully convinced that travel enriches individual lives and the world at large. So get going on your next trip! Need inspiration? Check out my newest online obsession, Fathom, which I’ve been spending way too much time exploring (and envying) over the past few days. Former Daily Candy editors, Pavia Rosati and Jeralyn Gerba, just launched the site a few months ago, so its coverage is still a bit sparse, but I’m already digging its foundation and plans for growth. It’s definitely one of the most beautifully designed and well-organized travel sites I’ve seen, with postcards to give you ideas about where to go, tools to help you get there, and guides to help you navigate on the ground. We love that it has a section forfamilies, in addition to plenty of other categories for the times you take off without your kids. So, here’s wishing you a happy World Tourism Day–and happy travels every day.
