A touching gift

I’m not particularly sentimental when it comes to holidays. And yet, as my husband’s first Father’s Day approached, I started to feel a little mushy. I will never buy a mug that says World’s Best Dad, but I wanted to commemorate the occasion with something special, meaningful, and lasting.

With the Touch cufflinks from Womily, Baby E made an impressive impression on her dad yesterday–both literally and figuratively. To an outside observer, the cufflinks look simple, modern, and classy. But to my husband, they look like his daughter’s fingerprints. Because that’s just what they are.

Womily’s creator, Siobhan Winograd, worked with Tiffany & Co. for almost ten years before having two children and starting her own company. Here’s how her signature Touch line works. You order a pair of cufflinks online (or any other Touch item, see photos below) and Womily sends you a simple kit in the mail with two wax molds. You put the wax under warm water until it becomes soft, press down with your thumb or your kids’ thumbs, and send it back to Womily. A few weeks later, you have a completely unique piece of jewelry. (Just one note of caution: Make sure the wax molds look exactly how you want the cufflinks to appear because they’re pretty much a replica of what you send in.)

My husband loved his Father’s Day gift, so you might want to bookmark this idea for next year or for other occasions between now and then. The cufflinks would be a great wedding present for a bride to give her groom. The keychain would be a sweet gift for your kids’ favorite teacher at the end of the school year. Grandparents could make a charm bracelet for their grandchild. Moms would love a necklace anytime of year. No matter which piece you chose to give, each one is uniquely touching.

LOVE this idea! And I can’t wait to copycat you for next year’s father’s day! Or maybe my husband’s next birthday… Thanks, Parenture!

Great find, Jen! Love it! Another idea along these lines: a friend of mine gave a nice gift to her husband this Father’s Day: collar stays with significant dates engraved, like their wedding date, son’s birth date, etc.

What an absolutely sweet idea! My husband loves cufflinks, and he will be a dad for the first time next Father’s Day. Solved!
