Just back from… Kent, CT

by parenture on March 28, 2011

The picture-perfect landscape around Kent, CT, in Litchfield County, is quintessential New England. If you’re looking for a relaxing weekend getaway–with the kids or without–this charming village offers the whole package: nature trails winding up hills and along babbling brooks, dazzling waterfalls, a quaint Main Street lined with independent shops and galleries, covered bridges, cozy restaurants, historic vineyards–and, amid it all, one of the East Coast’s best country inns. Here are the highlights.

Scenic hikes: Kent Falls State Park and Macedonia Brook State Park

Art and literature: Ober Gallery and House of Books

Good eats: The Millstone Cafe for brunch; The Villager for lunch; Doc’s Trattoria for dinner; Belgique Chocolatier for an afternoon treat

Cool drinks: Hopkins Vineyard ($6 wine tasting)

Sweet dreams: The Inn at Kent Falls (Doubles starting at $215; children accepted in certain rooms)

Drive time: About 2 hours from New York City
